Girona defeated Atletico Madrid 4–3 at home thanks to a stoppage-time goal by Iván Martín, which moved them to the top of LA LIGA with Real Madrid in terms of points.
Just two minutes into the game, Girona took the lead with a brilliant shot from the edge of the box by Valery Fernández. Alvaro Morata’s goal for Atletico earlier in the match had tied the score at one.

Girona capitalized on intense pressure, stealing the ball from Koke before Saviyo scored in the 26th minute to make it 2-1. In the 39th minute, Dutch defender Daley Blind extended the host team’s lead with a tap-in. Álvaro Morata had earlier equalized for Atletico with a stunning solo run in the dying minutes of the first half.

In the 53rd minute, Morata scored his third goal, a penalty kick that pulled Atletico back level. But Martin’s incredible goal made sure Girona won. Real Madrid, the league’s top team, defeated Mallorca 1-0 at home on Wednesday thanks to a goal from Antonio Rüdiger in the second half. This victory brought their league record to 13 games unbeaten. In the 78th minute, the center back headed in Luka Modrić’s corner to break the tie and score his first goal of the year.

Mallorca displayed a resilient defensive performance and came close to surprising Real with two attempts.
Rudiger commented, “Luka delivered a fantastic cross, [Dani] Carvajal with a great block, and luckily, it went in. I’m glad we achieved this aim, as it was one of three key aspects for us. This group of players has a unique blend of youthful and seasoned abilities.
Vinicius Junior, returning to action after injury, came close to scoring, but Mallorca’s goalkeeper Predrag Rajković made an excellent save, denying the Brazilian player a goal in the first half.
