India and Pakistan will play each other in a major encounter in New York at this year’s Men’s T20 World Cup, the International Cricket Council (ICC) said on Friday. Both teams are in the same group.

This clash ( India vs pakistan ) is set to take place on June 9. When the schedule for the tournament, to be held in the Caribbean and the United States from June 1 to June 29, was announced, England and Australia were also grouped together. The India vs Pakistan match will be played at the modular stadium with 34,000 seats, which will host a total of eight matches.
England will begin their trophy defense against Scotland in an all-British encounter on June 4 in Barbados. The Group B match will continue with fixtures in Barbados against Oman on June 8 and Namibia on June 15, before facing Australia on June 13 in Antigua. Before their clash with Australia on June 9 in Antigua, Oman will play against Antigua on June 6, and Scotland will face Namibia on June 6 in Barbados.
Ireland has been placed in Group A with India, Pakistan, Canada, and the United States. Their group stage matches will include two in New York and two in Florida.
A total of 20 teams were divided into four groups, and over the course of a month-long tournament, 55 matches were scheduled, with the top two teams from each group qualifying for the Super Eight round.

In the meantime, all-rounder Nat Sciver and batsman Joe Root of England have been shortlisted for ICC awards.
Root is nominated for Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year along with India’s Ravi Ashwin and Travis Head, as well as the Australian pair of Usman Khawaja. The 33-year-old Yorkshire player scored 787 runs in the previous year, including two centuries and five half-centuries.
Nat Sciver, on the other hand, has been nominated for ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year alongside Sri Lanka’s Chamari Athapathu, Australia’s Ashleigh Gardner, and Beth Mooney. The 31-year-old Sciver excelled in all three formats throughout the year and aims to maintain her form, having won the accolade for the ODI Cricketer of the Year in 2022.

Interestingly, players making their debuts for Pakistan began their Test cricket journey on this day as well. The Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in Delhi was the venue for the match, which included players from Pakistan like Abdul Kardar and Indian legends like Lala Amarnath.
India prevailed in the match by an innings and seventy runs.
