During a press briefing on Saturday, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar unveiled the election timetable for the 543-seat Lok Sabha, revealing that more than 97 crore individuals, comprising 49.7 crore men and 47.1 crore women, are entitled to exercise their voting rights across 10.5 lakh polling stations. The dates for the assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Sikkim, and Arunachal Pradesh were also declared by the Election Commission. April 19 is election day in Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim; May 13 is election day in Andhra Pradesh.

There will be four phases to the Odisha assembly voting: May 13th, May 20th, May 25th, and June 1st.Rajiv Kumar said that there will also be by-elections for 26 assembly constituencies in various states, with two new election commissioners, Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu, present.

Dates for Lok Sabha Elections 2024

The 18th Lok Sabha will be elected in seven stages, beginning on April 19 and ending on April 26. Additional dates of the election are May 7th, May 13th, May 20th, May 25th, and June 1st. The entire electoral process, from the announcement of voting to the declaration of results, lasts for 82 days.

In the first phase, voting will take place on April 19th in 102 constituencies in 21 states/union territories, completing the process in 10 states/union territories.

In the second phase on April 26th, voting will take place in 89 constituencies in 13 states/union territories, completing the process in four more states/union territories.

In the third phase on May 7th, voting will take place in 94 constituencies in 12 states/union territories, completing the process in six more states/union territories.

In the fourth phase on May 13th, voting will take place on 96 seats in 10 states and union territories, completing the process in three more states/union territories.

In the fifth phase on May 20th, voting will take place in 49 constituencies in 8 states/union territories, completing the process in three more states/union territories.

Drone-based surveillance on borders, monitoring of uncharted flights, action against misleading advertisements and fake news, and “ruthless” action against electoral violence are among the strategies of the Election Commission to deal with the fourfold challenge of “money, misinformation, and violation of the code of conduct,” Rajiv Kumar said in a press conference.

Additionally, Rajiv Kumar stated that the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly polls would take place shortly following the Lok Sabha elections.
